🏫 DRRM Field Assessment

Building Hope for Earthquake-Affected Schools in General Santos City

📍 Barangay Calumpang, General Santos City • Published: July 2026

Today, our KBF Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Team visited the earthquake-affected communities and schools in Barangay Calumpang, General Santos City.

Field Observations & Impact

Through conversations with school administrators, teachers, DRRM coordinators, parents, and students, we witnessed not only the extensive damage to school buildings but also the lasting emotional impact on children.

Despite the series of earthquakes that began on June 8 and the continuing tremors—including two earthquakes felt on July 14 that woke families in the middle of the night—children continue learning with courage.

🎒
Many children are still afraid to enter their classrooms, so teachers now distribute learning materials and conduct assessments outdoors as a vital child protection measure.

The resilience of these children and their educators is inspiring, but they cannot recover alone. They need safe learning spaces, psychosocial support, and our collective compassion and action.

"Together, we can help restore not only schools but also hope."
